Reddish Egret Spatial Ecology and Susceptibility to Disturbance Along the Texas Coast

Principal Investigator

This project will quantify Reddish Egret habitat selection with an emphasis on breeding season energy expenditure as it relates to habitat availability and the vulnerability of colony islands to human disturbance.

The focal bird species include the Reddish Egret (Egretta rufescens), a state-threatened species, and the Tricolored Heron (E. tricolor) and Great Egret (Ardea alba), two species which are listed as priority species in the Gulf of Mexico Avian Monitoring Network’s Strategic Bird Monitoring program.
