CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Leading scientists, graduate students, and industry experts will gather at the Coastal Solutions Symposium on Oct. 9 to explore the biggest challenges facing the Texas coast and highlight the growing career opportunities for graduates pursuing work in environmental science and coastal management.

The event, hosted in collaboration with the Harte Research Institute (HRI) at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) and Gulf Coast Growth Ventures (GCGV), will take place in the University’s Center Lone Star Room 142.

The daylong program will feature a keynote lunch, panel discussions, presentations, and a poster session — all centered on bridging the gap between academia and industry to create sustainable solutions for coastal issues.

Presentations will begin at 8:45 a.m. and continue throughout the day, and a Seaside Chat is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.

“The Coastal Solutions Symposium is a chance for students, researchers, and industry scientists to come together and share ideas,” said Jace Tunnell, HRI’s Director of Community Engagement and one of the event’s organizers. “It’s all about connecting people and science to find better ways to take care of our coast.”

Highlights include a Seaside Chat with Paul Fritsch, President and Site Manager of GCGV, and Dr. Keisha Bahr, HRI’s Chair for Coral Reef and Ocean Health. Multiple projects will be showcased through oral presentations and a poster session beginning at 1 p.m.

“We hope that through this event, university students will learn about opportunities for careers in industry and opportunities to work with industry as academic researchers,” Fritsch said. “By sharing knowledge and practices, we can more effectively address the challenges we face in modern society.”
