Nataly Gutierrez is a researcher from Colombia with a strong interest in understanding reef dynamics, including the drivers of coral reef degradation, coral reproductive biology, and the traits that influence coral species' adaptation and resilience.

Dr. Gutierrez holds a Ph.D. from The University of Queensland, where her research focused on the potential range shifts of coral species along latitudinal gradients in response to ocean warming.

At HRI, Dr. Gutierrez will be working on coral larval ecology, settlement, and coral health, in collaboration with partners from Mexico and Cuba. She is especially excited to strengthen international partnerships through collaborative research and fieldwork, aligning with her interdisciplinary approach that emphasizes the co-production of knowledge, respect for local communities, and the pursuit of actionable outcomes for conservation.

Beyond her research, Dr. Gutierrez enjoys exploring nature, photography, team sports, and engaging with coastal communities. Her long-term goal is to contribute to coral reef science that is regionally grounded yet globally impactful, supporting biodiversity and the well-being of coastal communities.
